Matterhorn was one of the last alpine mountains to be
conquered in 1865. The conquest of the Matterhorn brought the fame to the

The most picturesque part of Zermatt is Hinterdorf, the oldest
part of the village, with barns, stables and storage barns built between the 15th and 19th century.
