Inside the Gripsholm Castle of Sweden

Gripsholm Castle is set in an idyllic little town of Meriefred at the shore of Lake Malaren. It is about a three hour boat trip across the lake from Stockholm.

The castle was built by Gustav Vasa in the 16th century and houses
furniture and artwork spanning four centuries. Highlights include the chambers of the Vasa Dynasty king (Duke Karl’s Chamber of 16th century) and one of Europe’s best-preserved 18th century theatres (Gustav III’s Theatre). The castle is also internationally
renowned for its large National Portrait Gallery, featuring prominent personages from the time of Gustav Vasa down to the present day.
