Love Locks of Bolzano

Talfer River meanders through the lush Alps of the South Tyrol region of Italy. In the charming town of Bolzano, Talfer Bridge crosses the Talfer River. As many bridges in Europe, this one has become the testament to the Love Locks.

What are the Love Locks or Padlocks about? As the name suggests, the sweethearts lock padlocks to a bridge symbolizing their love. Typically the sweethearts’ names or initials are inscribed on the padlock, and its key is thrown away to symbolize unbreakable love. Since the 2000s, love locks have proliferated at an increasing number of locations worldwide. They are often treated by municipal authorities as litter or vandalism, and there is some cost to their removal.
