Small Inhabitants of High Mountains

Marmots are very popular inhabitants of the Alps. The pictures below were taken at  Grossglockner Mountain.

Marmots are large squirrels, mostly living in mountainous areas. With their teeth they look more like beavers than squirrels. Nevertheless, they are pretty friendly and it is asked not to feed them.  

Alpine Adventure: Grossglockner Pass

Grossglockner Pass is the High Alpine Road, the highest in Austria. It features thrilling views of 12,460 ft high Grossglockner Mountain, lush dairy pastures, and picturesque villages.  

Grossglockner Mountain is a pyramid-shaped peak actually consisting of two pinnacles, the Grossglockner and Kleinglockner.

Alpine Adventure: Tyrolean Kitzbuhel

Kitzbuhel, Tyrol region in Austria, is a charming small medieval town during the summer and a busy ski resort during the winter. It is about 100 km (62 mi) east of Innsbruck. South-west of Kitzbuhel, there is Grossglockner Pass, the highest in Austria, with thrilling views of 12,460 ft high Grossglockner Mountain, lush dairy pastures, and picturesque villages.

Alpine Adventure: The Golden Roof of Innsbruck

Since Innsbruck, western Austria, is located in a broad valley between high mountains, the massive range of mountains makes it look as they’re hovering over the town. The town is very picturesque and it is internationally renowned for winter sports.

The landmark of Innsbruck is the Golden Roof located in the Old Town. It was completed in 1500, the roof was decorated with 2,738 fire-gilded copper tiles for Emperor Maximilian I to mark his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza. The Emperor and his wife used the balcony to observe festivals, tournaments, and other event that took place in the square below.
