Munich Residence - Europe's Noteworthy Museum

The Munich Residence Palace complex ranks among Europe’s most significant museums of interior decoration and yet not too many tourists make their way to the palace to admire the interior. It is located on the edge of Munich’s Old Town, which during the summer buzzes with tourists. It is a shame that this palace is forgone by so many. Some who make their way there think that you are not allowed to take pictures inside and leave their cameras at the check in desk. DO NOT make that mistake.

The Munich Residence is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the Wittelsbach dynasty. It is the largest city palace in Germany. What began in 1385 as a castle was transformed over the centuries, 14th - 19th, into a magnificent palace. The complex contains three wings with 130 rooms, the Cuvillies Theater and the Treasury. The art collected in the palace ranges from the Renaissance, via the early Baroque and Rococo periods, to the neoclassical era.
